DUANE CORN

A native of Southern Indiana, Duane Corn began studying classical guitar privately with Renato Butturi in 1984. Mr. Corn continued under the tutelage of Butturi at the University of Evansville where he graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Music Degree in performance as well as a Bachelor of Music Education Degree.

As a student at the University of Evansville, Corn was student director of the UE Guitar Ensemble, student conductor and section leader of the UE Concert Choir, faculty member of the UE Institute for Fine and Performing Arts, and member of the student chapter of MENC. In 1989 he was one of five students chosen to perform in the annual Gumberts Awards Recital. Other awards during this time include finalist in the University of Evansville Concerto/Aria Competition in 1989, and finalist in the Competition for the Aspen Music School held at Butler University in 1987.

Upon completion of his studies at the University of Evansville, Corn began graduate work at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. There, as teaching assistant to Prof. Clare Callahan, he taught guitar classes, undergraduate guitar majors, and guitar ensemble. As a student at CCM he was winner of the Student Artist Program/WGUC Auditions and subsequently performed a 30-minute live recital on WGUC-FM radio. Corn received a Master of Music Degree from CCM in 1993.

In addition to his studies with Butturi and Callahan, Duane was one of several students to attend a workshop taught by well known guitarist Robert Guthrie. This was held in Taos, New Mexico in 1992. He has also participated in master classes with such noted guitarists as Christopher Parkening, Oscar Ghilia, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, David Russell, John Holmquist, Scott Tennant , and members of the Falla Trio.

An active recitalist, Corn has made numerous orchestral, radio and television performances in the US and Mexico as both a soloist, member of the Lexington Guitar Trio, and member of the Holland-Corn Guitar Duo. In 1999 The Holland and Corn Duo was the sole representative of the United States in the V Festival Cervantes en Todas Partes in Guanajuato, Mexico. Corn also performs regularly with Jaleos Flamencos, a Lexington, Kentucky based flamenco ensemble. Mr. Corn has been on the faculty of Brescia University and Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY; Oakland City University in Indiana, and the Classical Guitar Summer Workshop at CCM. He also spent many years as president of the Classical Guitar Society of Evansville and director of the ensemble.
